Kickboxing is often practiced for self-defense, general fitness, or as a full-contact sport. As a contact sport (either light-contact or full-contact) the athletes wear shorts and protective gear including: mouth-guard, hand-wraps, boxing gloves, and shin-pads, kick-boots, protective head gear.
There are a few different rule-based systems of kickboxing, including “Low Kick” (which allows kicks to the upper thigh) and “K1″ which in addition to kicking the upper thigh, athletes are also permitted to clinch and some take-down techniques.
Due to the nature of our training practice and focus at the Progressive Martial Arts Academy, our kickboxing is geared towards the K1 sport.
